The House of Representatives Committee on Delegated Legislation has visited the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) as part of its legislative oversight functions.

The visit, led by the committee chairman, Honourable Olufemi Richard Bamisile, focused on understanding the agency’s implementation of delegated legislation, regulatory compliance, and operational effectiveness in disease prevention and control.

The delegation was received by the Director-General of the NCDC, Dr. Jide Idris, alongside senior management staff.

Addressing the committee, Dr. Idris emphasized that the NCDC was established to enhance Nigeria’s resilience and preparedness for health emergencies.

He highlighted key focus areas of the agency, including disease surveillance, detection, response, and prevention.

He also noted that the current administration’s four-point health sector initiative prioritizes health security, aligning with the NCDC’s mandate.

On his part, Honourable Bamisile reiterated the committee’s commitment to ensuring that the NCDC operates within a strong legal and regulatory framework.

“Our purpose for visiting today is to gain a deeper understanding of the subsidiary legislations that guide your operations.

These regulations form the backbone of NCDC’s ability to execute its mandate effectively from disease surveillance and response to public health promotion and epidemiological research,” he said.

He commended the NCDC for its role in safeguarding public health, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, and assured that the committee would work towards strengthening the agency’s legal framework for improved service delivery.
