Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of State in the Foreign Affairs ministry, attended the Mediators Planning Retreat on Sudan in Djibouti, which saw participation from 32 countries and various regional and international organizations.

The meeting focused on international initiatives and efforts to establish peace in Sudan and develop a unified vision for the country’s future.

In his opening speech, Sheikh Shakhboot emphasized the urgent need to halt violence and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid in Sudan.

He called for intensified regional and international efforts to find effective solutions to help Sudan overcome its ongoing challenges.

“The critical situation for the Sudanese people is marked by a growing humanitarian crisis and the imminent threat of famine endangering civilian lives,” Sheikh Shakhboot noted.

He urged the international community to ramp up diplomatic and humanitarian efforts to resolve the conflict and address its humanitarian impacts, providing a coordinated response to the needs of the Sudanese people.

Sheikh Shakhboot also highlighted the UAE’s significant contributions to alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and neighboring countries. Since the conflict began in April 2023, the UAE has provided US$245 million in aid and established two field hospitals in Chad to support displaced Sudanese.

The Minister reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at de-escalating tensions and ending the crisis.

He stressed the importance of a consensual political path between the Sudanese parties and underscored the UAE’s position calling for an immediate ceasefire and an end to violence.

“There is no military solution,” Sheikh Shakhboot stated, emphasizing the need for dialogue to achieve a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The UAE’s leadership remains dedicated to providing humanitarian assistance and relief aid, underscoring its unwavering commitment to supporting peace and stability in Sudan and the region.
