As part of it’s effort towards environmental sustainability, the Zamfara State has secured a strategic partnership with the Climate Impact fund, Islamic Development Bank, Visa Card Foundation and others to implement a green energy and climate smart agriculture projects in the state.
Renewable Energy, Clean Cook Stove and community developmental project among others for the benefit of the people in the state.
The state Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mahmud Muhammad Abdullahi, made this known while speaking with the media after an engagement meeting with officials of the various organisations at the sidelines of the ongoing COP 28 in Dubai.
He said the state government aims to distribute about 5000 clean cook stoves as part of its commitment to fostering a cleaner and healthier environment, especially for people in the rural areas.
Hon Abdullahi said the state government recognizes the urgency of addressing environmental challenges and is implementing initiatives like the Clean Cooking Stove project to mitigate the impact of climate change.
He said the initiative is backed by collaborative efforts from key partners, including the Islamic Development Bank and the Clean Cook Stove Alliance who have given their commitment to support the state in it’s actualisation.
According to him, “Zamfara is poised to make a significant impact by distributing these clean cook stoves, a move that aligns with our commitment to environmental sustainability.
“The Clean Cooking Stove Initiative underscores Zamfara’s commitment to environmental responsibility and signifies a step forward in the collective efforts to combat climate change and its associated challenges,” he said.
Hon. Abdullahi also emphasized the state’s readiness to tap into the carbon market and unveiled plans to launch climate action plan initiatives in collaboration with the GGI Global Initiative in early 2024.
“Providing a sustainable environment is crucial for the growth and security of Zamfara. Through partnerships and strategic initiatives, we aim to create a positive impact on both the environment and the well-being of our citizens,” Abdullahi affirmed.
