As anticipation builds for the upcoming 29th UNFCCC Conference of Parties (COP29) in Azerbaijan, Afrihealth Optonet Association (AHOA) has garnered support from 104 organizations worldwide in endorsing their statement of solidarity with the COP29 Presidency and the host country.

In a letter addressed to the COP29 Presidency and signed by AHOA coordinator Dr. Uzodinma Adirieje, the coalition expressed unwavering support for Azerbaijan’s leadership role in guiding the global community towards a sustainable and resilient future amid pressing environmental challenges.

Highlighting the urgency of addressing climate change, the statement commends the dedication and leadership demonstrated by both the COP29 Presidency and Azerbaijan in advancing climate action on the international stage.

It emphasizes the crucial need for bold and decisive actions to mitigate the impacts of climate change, protect vulnerable communities, and preserve ecosystems for future generations.

AHOA lauds Azerbaijan’s commitment to fostering dialogue, cooperation, and innovation in climate resilience, citing initiatives such as “Troika – Mission 1.5” as evidence of the country’s proactive stance towards sustainable development.

The coalition expresses optimism that Azerbaijan, with its rich cultural heritage and diverse natural landscapes, will continue to champion climate change and environmental stewardship efforts during COP29.

It anticipates meaningful collaboration, ambitious commitments, and a course towards a more sustainable and equitable future for all under Azerbaijan’s leadership.

Recognizing the pivotal role of civil society organizations (CSOs) in driving climate action, the statement underscores the importance of grassroots movements and advocacy campaigns led by CSOs in raising awareness and mobilizing resources.
