Two persons have been feared dead as gunmen suspected to be Kidnappers invaded Oke Odè Community, in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara state.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that the incident occured around 7 pm, on Tuesday January 16, 2023 when a group of six individuals, stormed the town on motorcycles targeting a well-known commercial Point of Sale (POS) operator who narrowly escaped the clutches of the kidnappers.

“While attempting to prevent their targeted victim from escaping, the kidnappers resorted to shooting indiscriminately.

Tragically, in the ensuing melee, a trader named Iya Niyi from Aleye was hit by a stray bullet, and died on the spot”, Iya Aliyah, an eyewitness, recounted the incident.

She revealed that the community’s hunter swift response to the invasion, engaging the kidnappers in an intense gun battle left one of the assailants, dead and others escaped from the scene.

“As I’m speaking with you, the local hunters are still in pursuit of the suspects, combing the surrounding forest for any traces of their whereabouts,” She said.

Another case of kidnapping which was reported on Monday night January 15, 2023 involving four members of Afin Community in Ile-ire District of same Ifelodun LGA, where a high chief of the community was among the victims allegedly kidnapped.

The Kwara state command Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ejire Adetoun Adeyemi, confirmed the incident.
