The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Biodun Oyebanji, as the winner of the Ekiti State governorship election.

According to Voice of Nigeria the Chief Returning Officer of the election, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, declared the APC and its candidate winners of the election in the early hours of Sunday in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

Analysis

According to Adebowale, Oyebanji scored 187,057 votes to defeat his closest challengers: Engr. Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party and Chief Bisi Kolawole of the Peoples Democratic Party.

While Oni polled 82,211 votes, Kolawole secured 67,457 votes.

Oyebanji won in 15 local government areas across the state, while the PDP candidate, Bisi Kolawole won in his hometown of Efon-Alaaye.
Some of the local government areas won by the APC candidate include Ekiti west, Gbonyin, Ijero, Ikole, Ikere, Ado, Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ilejemeje, Ido/Osi, and Moba.
Others are Ekiti Southwest, Oye, Emure, Ise/Orun, and Ekiti east.
The election which was described to be peaceful took place in the one hundred and seventy seven registration areas while Nine hundred and eight nine thousand, two hundred and two people registered for the election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC was commended for successfully using the Bimodal Accreditation system BVAS and electronic transfer of the election results.

The election observation groups in the election noted that the early deployment of the election material by the electoral body paved the way for large number of the electorates to exercise their franchise in the election and extolled the roles of the the security agencies by ensuring the smooth conduct of the election.

However, the election
was one of the off seasons election conducted by INEC after the 2019 general election.
