The Nigerian Army has organized its 31st edition seminar for social media influencers to enhance civil-military relations as part of its efforts to promote responsible social media usage
Speaking at the event the Chief of Civil Military Affairs Major General NC Ugbol stated that the seminar with the theme “Emerging Trends on Social Media: impact on National Security” is aimed at curbing the menace of social media fake news on National security.

He added that the seminar is aimed at, fostering collaboration between the citizens and the Nigerian Army and to improve its existing relationship with other stakeholders in the security sector.

Also speaking General Officer Commanding Second Division Nigerian Army Ibadan, Major General B A Alabi stated that the seminar was organized for the youths and other online users to put national interests above other interests when creating content on any social media platform.

he said the event is organised to bridge the gap between the military and civil society and to enlighten the participants on the civil-military cooperation activities and projects undertaken by the Nigerian Army in the country.

Speaking with our correspondent on the sidelines of the event the Commissioner for Youth Development in Kwara State, Hon. Nafisat Musa Buge, commended the Nigerian Army for organizing the program, saying it is indeed a welcome gesture from the military to strengthen its relationship with the Civil populace.

A social Analyst and professor of Aging and retirement, Prof. Omotayo Olatunbosun Temitope, emphasized the importance of communication as a key factor in ensuring National security and development.

He thereafter, urged social media influencers, especially bloggers to be responsible with what they put on the internet as whatever they post can make or mar the nation.


The event was attended by students of tertiary institutions, sister security agencies among others.
