Residents of Idi-Ọ̀gẹ̀dẹ̀-One Community, Olunlade, in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State have called on the State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to once again come to their aide and save them from being displaced by incessant flooding in the area.

They made the call over the weekend, during an exclusive interview with Sobi FM when they took him round the community to see the damages caused by over-flowing erosion, coming from the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies.

The Chairman, “Ìdí-Ọ̀gẹ̀dẹ̀ – One” Community Development Association, Alhaji Raufu Oyewumi spoke on what the residents of the area have been going through all these while, including insecurity, and therefore requests for the installation of solar streetlights too.

Also speaking was the Assistant General-Secretary of the community, Oladimeji John-Gbenga, who pleaded with the State government, and other relevant government agencies to help fix the problem of drainage in the area, to avert loss of lives and properties.

Meanwhile, the drainage in the area is grossly inadequate to properly channel the huge volume of water into the nearby Osin river, through the Majasunrawa Street, off Ajase-Ipo Road.

The flooding had rendered the Olọ̀gẹ̀dẹ̀ street completely impassable, thereby, forcing vehicle owners to park their cars, about a kilometre to their residences, while the foundation of most of the buildings in the area have been eroded, such that it would take only a heavy downpour, for the buildings to collapse.
