In a bid to mitigate the impact of the upcoming rainy season, Senior Special Assistant on Communications to Kwara State Governor, Ibraheem Abdullateef, collaborated with residents of Abeemi-Itamerin community in Ilorin West LGA to clear obstructed drainages.

This community-led initiative aims to ensure efficient water flow, reduce the risk of flooding, and safeguard lives and properties.

He said clearing the drainages will also prevent loss of properties and lives caused by flooding in the area.

Abdullateef reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to environmental preservation and public safety, highlighting plans for an educational session to raise awareness on climate change adaptation and sustainable development practices.

Abdullateef hinted that a session to enlighten members of the community on safe environment practices will follow the exercise.

“I am sponsoring this exercise in line with the vision of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to protect environment and people and strengthen healthy living,” the governor’s aide said.

“Upon the completion, we will take further steps to enlighten and encourage members of the community on practices for safe environment, climate change, and natural disasters for sustainable development.”

He said the proactive approach demonstrates Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration’s dedication to proactive environmental management and community engagement in Kwara State.

“The AbdulRazaq-led administration has consistently initiated moves to prevent flooding and the danger associated with blockage of drainages in the state.

“These include the dredging of the Asa River, desilting of drainages and numerous media campaigns mounted to educate the public on safe environment practices,” he said.
