The Kwara State House of Assembly has urged Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to direct the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Technology to ensure that its Weight and Measure Department monitors petrol stations to adhere to standard weight and measure in dispensing the commodity to motorists in the state.

This followed the adoption of a motion without notice titled “Need for Government to control the shortchange of consumers by petroleum products marketers in Kwara State ” sponsored by the member representing Kaiama-Kemaji-Wajibe Constituency, Abdullahi Danbaba at the plenary today Thursday, July 20, 2023.

The House also implored the Governor to direct the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Technology to collaborate with the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC in the state to ensure sanity in the operation of petrol stations in the state.

The Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu also called on Kwarans not to hesitate to report any act of shortchange by petrol stations to the concerned government agencies for redress.

In their various contributions, the lawmakers decried how most of the petrol stations have been taking advantage of the increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit by adjusting their dispensing machines which is at the detriment of innocent motorists.

In another development, the House has called on the State Ministry of Works and Transport to expedite action on the reconstruction of the Shao-Malete bridge which collapse due to the heavy downpour on Wednesday.

Speaking under a Matter of General Public Importance, the member representing Malete/Ipaye/Olooru Constituency, Honourable Lawal Ayanshola said that the collapse of the bridge has almost brought business and social activities to a standstill in that axis.

Hon. Ayanshola explained that the bridge connects the major routes to Kwara State University Malete, while farm produce and other goods are also conveyed through the road hence the need for urgent action to be taken.

Meanwhile, the Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu has confirmed the appointment of Alhaji Kareem Ahmed Olayiwola as the substantive Clerk of the Kwara State House of Assembly.

The confirmation of the new Clerk followed a motion moved by the House Leader and member representing Ilorin Central Constituency, Abdulkadir Magaji following the retirement of the former Clerk, Hajia Halimah Kperogi.

Our House of Assembly correspondent reports that until his appointment, Alhaji Kareem Ahmed Olayiwola was the Deputy Clerk and Director Personnel, Finance and Supply of the House.

The speaker who described Alhaji Olayiwola as a dedicated civil servant, congratulated him on his new assignment and expressed the hope that he would bring his experience on board to move the Tenth Legislature to enviable height.
