The Kwara State Government has again charged residents of the state to always clean their environment and partake in the state monthly sanitation exercise in order to promote hygiene and prevent epidemic in our society.
The Commissioner for Environment, Mallam Shehu Ndanusa Usman, gave the charge today while interacting with newsmen while monitoring compliance during the monthly sanitation exercise held in the state.
The Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Hajia Afusat Ibrahim, frowned at the growing number of environmental offenders.
He reminded residents that the monthly sanitation is compulsory on all residents of Kwara because it was purposely designed for residents to clean their environment.
According to him, “today’s exercise is a bit backward in terms of what we have recorded in the last two months. Our people are not complying and they are becoming more aggressive,” he said.
He however warned that henceforth, whoever violates the environmental laws such as indiscriminate dumping of refuse, sanitation offenders and all other violators will be sanctioned without fear or favour.
He also charged members of the public to always abide by relevant rules and regulations of environmental laws and also participate in the sanitation exercise by cleaning their residential and business environments.
