The Kwara State House of Assembly has urged Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to direct the State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development to investigate the delay in the payment of salaries and arrears of Local Government and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) workers by the consultant.

This resolution was reached at the plenary today following a matter of general public importance raised by the Honorable representing Okuta-Yashikira Constituency, Muhammed Baba-Salihu, titled “Need for Consultant in charge of salaries of Local Government and SUBEB workers to ensure Prompt Payment”.

In addition to urging the consultant to expedite the payment of salaries and arrears for these categories of workers, the House emphasized the importance of timely disbursement to motivate workers and improve livelihoods.

While commending Governor AbdulRazaq for the regular release of funds to the consultant for salary payments, the lawmakers expressed concern over the unwarranted delay in salary disbursement.

During deliberations, lawmakers highlighted the significance of timely salary payments, noting that the delay undermines the government’s efforts to improve workers’ welfare and frustrates its goodwill gesture of clearing backlog salary arrears inherited from the previous administration.

The House directed its Joint Committee on Education and Human Capital Development to summon the consultant for an explanation.
