The Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike JP has condoled with former Nigerian international, Chief (Dr) Segun Odegbami (MON) over the sad loss of his son, Oluwagbeminiyi Ọmọ Odegbami.

The condolence message was contained in a press release signed by the Chairman, Office of the Nigeria Pillar of Sports (ONPS), Prince Ajide Olayioye, and made available to newsmen in Ilorin on Thursday. The Nnewi-born Sports philanthropist says his thought is with Chief Odegbami and his entire household, at this moment of grief over the painful loss.

The sad news was revealed by the former National team’s captain himself on his Facebook page, Ṣẹ́gun Odegbami’s Diary, in an emotion-laden post, detailing how sudden the death of the younger Odegbami was. Odegbami (Snr) revealed, he was not in town when the hitherto young man who was full of life reportedly fall sick, and all effort to get back to himself failed.

Chief Ejidike, therefore, on behalf of Sports-loving Nigerians commiserates with the entire Odegbami family, praying for God’s comfort for the bereaved, and the repose of the soul of the deceased.

“The Mathematical Segun”, as Odegbami is fondly called by soccer fans was a prominent member of the Green Eagles that won Nigeria its first African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 1980, beating their Algerian counterparts 3-0 at the National Stadium Surulere Lagos in the final.
