A House of Assembly Candidate for Kaiama State Constituency Mohammed Babangida alongside notable local government and wards executives of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, on Sunday announced their defection to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kwara state.

Babangida, led the local government Vice-chairman, Secretary, Women leader, and all the ward chairmen to join the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the new defectors after a meeting with the Director General for the PDP Governorship Campaign Council, Prof Ali Ahmad, Babangida cited disintegration and lack of grounded structure in their former party as part of their reasons they decided to join hands with the PDP.

He further added that the under development and lack of adequate government attention in Kaiama local government fueled his ambition to make a change by contesting for the house of assembly seat.

Babangida, however, said that NNPP lacks the structure to win any election in the state, adding that the PDP remains the only political party that can wrestle power and rescue Kwarans from the neglect, sufferings, and hardship caused by the ruling APC in Kwara and the country at large.

“As grassroots politicians, we have searched around for the best alternative party that can address the yearnings of our people, particularly those of us that APC reign has brought about underdevelopment, neglect, sufferings, and hardship on us as people that lives in the rural areas.

“We were all in the NNPP to actualize this, but unfortunately, the party has proved to lack the grounded structure needed for any serious political party to win an election,” he said.

Addressing the defectors, the Director General for the PDP Governorship Campaign Council Prof. Ali Ahmad who commended them for joining the party, assure them of equal opportunities when voted into power.

Prof Ali, therefore, urged the defectors to ensure they go back to their various political wards and ensure 100 percent victory for all the PDP candidates in Kaiama thereby actualizing the Kwara North agitation for a power shift.
