A Non-Governmental Organisation, “Cleen Foundation”, today in Ilorin organised a training session, on the Administration of Criminal Justice implementation in Nigeria, themed Training of Trainers Session.

In his welcome remarks, the Executive Director, of Cleen Foundation, Mr. Gad Peter, said the essence of the training is to promote efficient management of criminal justice institutions, provide speedy dispensation of justice, and protect the society from crime while defending the rights and the interests of the defendants and the victims.

He also identified specific flaws in the repealed Criminal Procedure Act, which some law enforcement agents often abuse, but which the new Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) has come to correct.

The event which is billed for the 21st and 22nd of March 2023, had in attendance, members of the judiciary, legal practitioners, officials of the State Ministry of Justice, OC Legal, the Kwara State Police Command, members of the Civil Society Organisations, and members of 4th Estate of the realm – journalists.

Abdulmumeen Busari, who is the Principal State counsel at the Ministry, representing the Kwara State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General,  rates the scorecard of the State very high in terms of implementation of the Criminal Justice Administration but admitted that there is room for improvement.

One of the resource persons, an Associate Professor at the “Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies”, University of Ilorin, Gbemisola Animashaun, advocated the creation of awareness, at the operational level of law enforcement, by the rank and file.
