In a bid to bolster food production and curb waste in the transportation of agricultural goods, Kwara, Lagos, and Niger States have embarked on a collaborative effort.

The partnership, spurred by President Bola Tinubu’s call for urgent action on food security following his return from France, aims to streamline food distribution channels and ensure steady supply chains.

The initial discussions were held at the office of the Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture in Alausa, Ikeja, where The alliance is a step towards enhancing food security, empowering farmers, and fostering sustainable agricultural practices.

Speaking at the event, Lagos State’s Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, underscored the importance of formalizing inter-state collaboration to safeguard food security and improve livelihoods. She emphasized the need to minimize wastage during food transportation and restore efficient distribution networks.

Ms. Olusanya highlighted Lagos’s readiness to procure agricultural produce from Kwara and Niger States, acknowledging their significant contributions to food production.

She emphasized the pivotal role of Lagos in the national food supply chain and its commitment to supporting neighboring states.

Speaking in the same vein, the Kwara State commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Olufunmilayo Thomas expressed Kwara State’s eagerness to meet the food demands of Lagos and other states.

She emphasized the importance of empowering farmers and bridging gaps in the agricultural value chain to ensure food security at both local and national levels.

Similarly, Niger State Commissioner for Industry, Trade Investment, and Private Sector DevelopmentAminu Suleiman Takuma voiced optimism about the collaborative initiative, urging swift action to translate discussions into tangible outcomes.

He highlighted ongoing efforts in Niger State to promote agricultural transformation and underscored the importance of sustained collaboration among the participating states.
